3D-Printed Luxury Housing By Architectural Veterans Takes Root In America

Situated just 40 miles south of Austin, Wimberly Springs is set to welcome a new breed of housing. ICON, renowned for its construction tech, has teamed up with the celebrated architectural firm Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) to roll out an impressive project: eight high-end, single-family homes, each built using ICON’s 3D-printing technology.

With prices starting in the high $800,000s, these abodes offer a competitive option in an area often dubbed a “millionaire’s playground.” They’re crafted from the proprietary low-carbon material, ‘CarbonX’, range from 2,900 to 4,100 square feet and feature four to five bedrooms.

Homebuyers can choose from two distinct collections: AlphaBeta and TexNext. Both collections reflect the natural beauty of the Wimberley landscape, offering designs that are as breathtaking as they are functional.

The AlphaBeta array, ICON’s most spacious and luxurious, touts contemporary open floor plans and light-filled interiors that ease into both indoor and outdoor spaces.

The TexNext designs, the version crafted by the world-renowned BIG, pay homage to Texas’s rich history and architectural heritage while injecting a modern twist.

The concrete construction not only provides high thermal performance, regulating temperature fluctuations for comfort and energy efficiency, but also adheres to the EnergyStar standard. These homes typically achieve a Home Energy Rating System (HERS) rating between 40-55, making them up to 60% more energy-efficient than standard new homes. Meanwhile, the use of the low-carbon material CarbonX and robotic construction methods ensure strength and durability capable of withstanding wind speeds up to 250 mph.
