A Hulking, 2,492-Carat Diamond Has Been Discovered In Botswana

A dazzling discovery has rocked the world of precious gems. In Botswana, a 2,492-carat diamond has been unearthed, claiming the title of the second-largest diamond ever found.
This extraordinary gem was recovered at the Karowe Mine, operated by Canadian mining company Lucara Diamond Corp. The company has previously struck it rich with other remarkable finds, including the 1,758-carat Sewelo diamond and the 1,109-carat Lesedi La Rona diamond.
Described as “exceptional,” the high-value rock was detected using advanced X-ray technology that preserves the quality of precious finds, as well.
Only one diamond in recorded history outshines this Botswanan beauty. The legendary Cullinan diamond, weighing in at 3,106 carats, was discovered in South Africa back in 1905. That historic gem went on to be cut into several smaller stones, many of which now adorn the British Crown Jewels.
