Marmite is adding some rock and roll to breakfast tables again. The iconic British yeast extract has teamed up with the Elton John AIDS Foundation for a 2024 jar that spreads nostalgia with its eternalization of Sir Elton’s legendary 1975 Dodger Stadium performance.
The container features artwork inspired by John’s dazzling sequined baseball outfit. The custom-made ensemble, a creation of renowned designer Bob Mackie, has become synonymous with one of the most memorable moments in the Rocket Man’s career.
The friendship between Marmite and the charity sparked from an unexpected source—a birthday Instagram post by the singer, who recently achieved the rare ‘EGOT’ status with an Emmy win for his Disney+ special Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodger Stadium. An impressive collection of Marmite jars in the background showed how much of a fan he was, leading to a collaboration that has now produced its third limited-edition jar. Previous releases celebrated the Rocketman film and the 50th anniversary of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.
Beyond its eye-catching design, the 2024 jar serves a greater purpose. Marmite has committed to donating US$1 million over three years to the Elton John AIDS Foundation. Established in 1992, the foundation is a leading independent AIDS organization, focusing on providing treatment and care to those most at risk of HIV and AIDS globally.
“With the launch of this jar, we are adding a touch of sparkle and glam to breakfast moments across the country,” shares Georgina Bradford, marketing director for Unilever Nutrition UK & Ireland.
This special jar will be available for purchase at £3 (US$3.96) in Sainsbury’s, Tesco, and Morrisons starting September 4, with proceeds supporting the foundation’s mission.
