Backing a crowdfunding campaign can often feel like a leap of faith—sometimes you land on your feet, but other times you’re left wondering if you’ll ever see the product you helped fund. Indiegogo is looking to take some of the guesswork out of the equation with its new Shipping Guarantee Program, designed to protect pledgers from unfulfilled promises.

The program offers a safety net for backers of select campaigns. If a project fails to ship within the promised timeframe, supporters are eligible for a full refund. The move addresses one of the community’s biggest pain points—the uncertainty of actually receiving the product they’ve helped finance to bring an innovative product into fruition—and ultimately aims to boost confidence in the crowdfunding process.

With that, not just any campaign can qualify for this guarantee. Indiegogo has restricted access to projects with a proven track record and products in the final stages of manufacturing. Eligible creations will sport a ‘Shipping Guarantee’ badge, a visual cue for visitors that a potential investment is protected.

Zero Zero Robotics, known for its pocket-sized HoverAir X1 camera, will be the first company to test-drive this initiative. Having raised nearly US$2 million on the platform, it’s now back with a PRO series and assures pledgers it will meet shipping deadlines. “We’re confident in our ability to ship on time, ensuring backers can support us with peace of mind,” expresses MQ Wang, founder and CEO of Zero Zero Robotics.

Indiegogo’s CEO Becky Center emphasizes the low-risk program’s role in nurturing innovation. “By providing a guarantee that backers will receive their products or their money back, we are enhancing the overall crowdfunding experience and encouraging more people to support bringing these innovative products to life,” notes Center.
