‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Artist Introduces Variants That Were Slashed From Movie

It looks like Deadpool and Wolverine almost had a “claw-some” mashup that, unfortunately, never made it to the big screen. David Masson, concept artist for the blockbuster film, has unleashed a couple of unused character designs that he had to say Bye, Bye, Bye to.
Perhaps the more compelling creation from this alternate universe is ‘Wolverpool’, a wild fusion of the Merc with a Mouth and the gruff X-Men mutant. Masson’s Instagram reveal gives us a glimpse of what could have been: Deadpool’s iconic red and black suit, now sporting Wolverine’s razor-sharp adamantium claws and distinctive mask.
But Wolverpool wasn’t the only variant that got left on the cutting room floor. Masson also shared concept art for ‘Punkpool’, a rock ‘n’ roll take on the wise-cracking antihero. This edgy version of Wade Wilson sports a suit adorned with studs and spikes, ready to shred both guitars and bad guys alike.

These illustrations represent the countless “what-if” scenarios that exist in filmmaking. Who knows? Wolverpool might be somewhere out there slaying enemies with his claws instead of swords.
