Taylor Swift might be known for shaking it off, but former US President Donald Trump could soon be known for proclaiming, “Look what you made me do.” Priced at US$36, his latest campaign merchandise bears an uncanny resemblance to the pop superstar’s Eras Tour apparel.
The Trump Era T-shirt mirrors Swift’s tour aesthetic, featuring a collage of photos tracing phases of Trump’s political career, including his mugshot.
The timing of this sartorial statement is particularly pointed, coming hot on the heels of Swift’s open endorsement of Kamala Harris for the 2024 electoral race following the first debate between both presidential hopefuls on September 10.
In a detailed Instagram post, the pop icon praised Harris as a “steady-handed, gifted leader” capable of bringing stability and progress to the nation. Swift also encouraged her massive following to engage in the political process, providing resources for voter registration and early voting. She also signed her message off with “Childless Cat Lady,” poking fun at comments previously made by Republican VP nominee JD Vance.
Firing back in a Fox News interview, Trump suggested Swift’s endorsement of Harris would have negative repercussions, claiming she would “pay a price for it in the marketplace.” Downplaying her influence, he dismissed her as “a very liberal person,” despite Swift’s Instagram post garnering over 10 million likes.
Trump’s team, meanwhile, sought to capitalize on Swift’s massive following with the Trump Era shirts, paired with the MAGA slogan—a move that comes at the ire of Swifties. “My culture is not your costume,” says a fan.
This isn’t the first time Trump has invoked Swift’s name or likeness in his campaign. Last month, he shared AI-generated images falsely pointing to her support.
