Disney Unveils Its First ‘Storyliving’ Residential Model Homes

Homes almost fit for a fairy tale are sprouting up in the California desert, and no, it’s not a mirage. Disney’s latest venture is turning the page on traditional housing developments, with its first Storyliving community taking shape in Rancho Mirage.
The House of Mouse has unveiled the first three model homes in its Cotino community, giving curious onlookers a sneak peek at what life might be like in when Disney’s magic spills into a desert oasis. Set to open its doors to the public this November, these abodes are just the beginning of a much larger narrative.

Announced in 2022, Storyliving by Disney represents the entertainment giant’s foray into master-planned residential communities, dreamed up by Disney Imagineers. Cotino, located in the Greater Palm Springs area, is the first chapter in this new story. A second community is already in the works near Raleigh, North Carolina.
Built by Shea Homes, these completed residences are situated on the streets of Blue Oasis Drive and Purple Iris Way, showcasing a range of architectural styles from modern desert chic to mid-century.
While the structures themselves are the centerpiece, the true magic lies in the planned lifestyle that Disney envisions for Cotino’s future occupants of all ages. Residents can look forward to promenades with mountain views, parks galore, and a central lagoon featuring Crystal Lagoons technology. For the four-legged residents, there’s even a ranchero-style dog park, complete with play structures. Meanwhile, a Little Desert Park will celebrate the region’s wildlife and natural beauty.

The heart of the community will be a town center, set to open in 2025. Here, residents and visitors alike can enjoy shops, dining, and entertainment options. An open-air market will showcase local artists, while Cotino Bay Beach will offer a taste of seaside living in the desert for a fee.
Disney’s vision extends to creating spaces that foster connection. The Artisan Club will serve as a social hub, offering access to Cotino Bay and various wellness activities. For the senior residents, there’s Longtable Park, inspired by Walt Disney's love of community breakfasts.
