Lenovo Unleashes The World’s First Rollable Display Laptop To Hit The Market

Lenovo is unfolding into the future with the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 Rollable. Unveiled at CES 2025, it introduces a rollable OLED display that stretches vertically from 14 inches to 16.7 inches. With a simple press of a button or a wave of your hand, the screen unfurls, offering more space for work, play, or multitasking. 

The expansive display is powered by compact motors embedded in the hinge, ensuring a smooth transition without gaps or visible creases. The brand proclaims that the mechanism has been rigorously tested to endure 20,000 rolls and 30,000 hinge openings.

Switching between screen sizes takes about 10 seconds, accompanied by a faint motor sound—an intentional design choice to signal the operation is in progress.

At its core, the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 Rollable is still built with productivity in mind. The OLED display boasts sharp visuals with resolutions ranging from 2000×1600 pixels in its compact form to 2000×2350 pixels when fully extended. It features a 120Hz refresh rate, 400 nits of brightness, and 100% DCI-P3 color gamut coverage for vibrant, accurate colors. Under the hood, the laptop runs on an Intel Core Ultra 7 Gen 2 processor, with up to 32GB of DDR5 RAM and 1TB of SSD storage.

All told, the design comes with a few practical trade-offs. The extended screen makes the laptop slightly top-heavy, though Lenovo has accounted for this by designing a stable base. Users are also advised to retract the screen before closing the laptop to avoid awkward handling. 

The ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 Rollable is set to launch in early 2025, with a starting price of US$3,499.
