KitchenAid is spreading warmth, nostalgia, and a pinch of indulgence into the kitchen with its 2025 Color of the Year, ‘Butter’. With its satin finish and inviting hue, this creamy yellow shade is intended to whisk fans back to fond memories of home cooking.

Emphasizing the emotional connection people have with warm, buttery tones, the brand’s global brand marketing director, Chad Ries, pointed to a study noting that more than half of consumers associate this shade with comforting home-cooked meals.

“As the KitchenAid Stand Mixer has been a staple in kitchens for generations, the 2025 Color of the Year selection goes hand in hand with the nostalgic feelings we get thinking back on memories of cooking with our loved ones,”  Ries explains. “Butter gives off indulgent, comforting and inviting feelings through its modern and energizing yellow that invites makers to savor the moment.”

Butter is the byproduct of years of the team tracking color trends, with KitchenAid first noticing mustard tones gaining popularity in 2019. After extensive research and testing, they landed on Butter—a tone that blends classic nostalgia with a modern edge, making it feel both familiar and fresh.

Butter is the seventh KitchenAid Color of the Year, with the selection spanning roughly three years. Moments in kitchens from the 1950s and 1960s—when soft yellows were a common design choice—were kneaded into the process.

Unlike trend-led shades that come and go, this sweet color is positioned as a long-lasting neutral, adaptable to rise to the occasion for different home aesthetics over time.

“We knew we wanted the color to feel like a warm embrace, and compared to other colors, we found that yellow is significantly more likely to evoke feelings of warmth and joy,” Brittni Pertijs, color, finish, and material manager at KitchenAid parent company Whirlpool, chimes in. “In the color development phase, we worked hard to ensure Butter captured these emotions while also feeling fresh and modern in the home.”

Butter's goodness has been infused into the Artisan Series 5 Quart Tilt-Head Stand Mixer, which is now available for purchase on KitchenAid’s website for US$499.99.
