Adobe Firefly Now Lets You Create Any Sound Effect By Typing Or Shouting

Adobe is giving video creators something to shout about, with an AI-tinged squeal. With the latest update to its Firefly platform, the company is letting users “speak” sound effects into existence, while tightening up its frame-by-frame video editing tools. Now, you can hum, whisper, or type your way into a finished product within the app.
The July 2025 update brings the debut of the Generate Sound Effects feature in beta. The tool allows users to create their own sound design simply by typing descriptive prompts or recording their voice. You could, say, mimic a buzzing bee or call out “whoosh,” Firefly responds with four AI-generated options, which can be added directly to a video timeline. This removes the need to search through generic stock libraries and puts more creative control directly into the user’s hands.

Beyond audio additions, Firefly also now features more refined video tools aimed at professionals and content creators alike. New controls include a Composition Reference option to guide your scene layout, Keyframe Cropping for more fluid visual transitions, and a wide array of built-in style presets—from claymation to pencil sketch—that help creators lock in a consistent aesthetic across projects.

Notably, the company has expanded Firefly’s model ecosystem. Users can now tap into partner engines such as Runway’s Gen-4 Video, Google’s Veo 3 with audio support, and upcoming integrations with Moonvalley’s Marey and Luma AI. These models each offer unique stylistic possibilities and now work natively inside the Firefly platform, so creators don’t need to bounce between apps or reconfigure assets mid-process. Adobe also confirmed that content credentials will remain embedded to help ensure provenance and safety.
