IKEA’s latest designer collab might be your next guilty pleasure, especially if you’ve ever wanted your dinnerware to match the vibes of your dopamine decor. The furniture giant has teamed up with Swedish designer Gustaf Westman to create a plate that gives its iconic meatballs the royal treatment.
The long pastel-blue plate, teased ahead of a full September 2025 launch, features a carefully sculpted recess made to perfectly cradle meatballs like mini sculptures.
Westman, best known for his soft-edged, bubble-shaped ceramics, designed the plate with humor and practicality in mind. While clearly a nod to IKEA’s Swedish meatballs (which the company sells by the billion each year), Westman’s tray isn’t limited to one food group. He’s imagined it just as suited to charcuterie, fruit, or anything that deserves its own little spotlight.
The piece is part of a larger 12-item capsule collection created with both Westman and fellow Swedish artist Evelina Kroon. While Westman brings the plush forms and playful geometry, Kroon’s work focuses on nostalgia and seasonal rituals. Together, they offer a conceptual refresh on household “celebration,” turning the act of plating food into a daily design event. Their collaboration was first introduced during IKEA’s annual Democratic Design Days in Älmhult, Sweden.
With this capsule, IKEA is trying to shift how we think about joy in domestic settings, not just saving it for birthdays or holidays but building it into the objects we use every day. The meatball plate is perhaps the most literal expression of that ethos, playing with form while serving a cultural wink to the company’s heritage.

The full Gustaf Westman and Evelina Kroon collection will be unveiled on September 9, with more pieces likely to follow the same playful-meets-practical formula.
