Samsung Galaxy S26 Arrives: Ultra Has Built-In Privacy Display, 200MP Camera

At its Galaxy Unpacked event in San Francisco on February 25, 2026, Samsung formally introduced the Galaxy S26, S26+ and S26 Ultra. The trio marks the brand’s third generation of AI-focused smartphones, combining iterative hardware updates with deeper software integration. The emphasis this year is less about flashy add-ons and more about reducing friction, whether that means summarizing a call from an unknown number or surfacing the right photos when a friend asks for them.

“We believe AI should be something people can depend on every day, designed to work consistently for everyone and without the need for expertise,” said TM Roh, Chief Executive Officer, President, and Head of Device eXperience (DX) Division at Samsung Electronics. “With the Galaxy S26 series, we focused on making AI feel effortless, working quietly in the background so people can focus on what matters.”

Performance

Across the lineup, Samsung is promising stronger performance and improved efficiency through a customized chipset. The S26 Ultra runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform for Galaxy, with gains in CPU, GPU and NPU performance intended to keep multitasking smooth and AI features responsive. A redesigned vapor chamber and updated thermal materials are designed to better distribute heat during gaming, video capture or extended workloads. Samsung also claims the Ultra can reach up to 75% charge in around 30 minutes with its latest fast-charging standard.

Display

The S26 Ultra introduces what Samsung calls a built-in Privacy Display, which limits visibility from side angles when activated while preserving full clarity for the user. Unlike adhesive privacy filters, this system is integrated into the panel and can be triggered automatically in certain scenarios, such as when entering passwords or opening selected apps. Users can adjust privacy intensity and enable partial screen protection for notifications.

Cameras 

The Ultra model features a 200-megapixel sensor and wider apertures aimed at improving low-light performance. Nightography video has been refined for dim environments, and stabilization now includes a horizontal lock mode to help steady footage. Samsung has also added support for APV, a professional-grade video codec designed for efficient compression without noticeable quality loss after editing. AI enhancements extend to the selfie camera, with improvements in skin tone rendering under mixed lighting.

Editing tools

Through an updated Photo Assist suite, users can describe changes in plain language, such as adjusting lighting conditions or restoring missing portions of an object. Edits can be layered and revised step by step. Creative Studio expands this concept, letting users generate graphics, stickers or wallpapers from prompts or sketches without switching apps. Practical tools have also been refined: Document Scan automatically removes distortions and compiles multiple images into a single PDF.

Artificial intelligence smarts

Features such as Now Nudge suggest relevant content at timely moments, while Circle to Search with Google now recognizes multiple objects within a single image. Samsung has also upgraded Bixby to better interpret conversational commands, and the S26 series supports additional agents including Gemini and Perplexity, allowing users to complete multi-step tasks through voice or a single button press.

Privacy & Security 

The company has expanded its post-quantum cryptography protections into system processes and enhanced its Knox Matrix platform with additional end-to-end encryption for connected services. AI-powered call screening can summarize unknown callers’ intent, while privacy alerts notify users if apps attempt to access sensitive information. A Private Album feature allows selected photos and videos to be hidden directly within the gallery.

Elsewhere

Samsung has additionally introduced the Galaxy Buds4 series as a companion to the S26 lineup, enabling voice activation of AI agents and gesture-based call controls when paired with the phone.

Pricing & Colors

The S26, S26+ and S26 Ultra are available for preorder, with US pricing starting at US$899, US$1,099, and US$1,299 respectively. Global availability begins March 11, with shared color options including Cobalt Violet, White, Black and Sky Blue, alongside select online exclusives.
