The most useful accessory might not be gold or silver, but something you already have lying around. IKEA has taken a tool most people forget about and given it a tongue-in-cheek second life, one that sits somewhere between fashion and function.
IKEA Singapore, together with The Secret Little Agency (part of the global Mother network), has crafted the ALLËNKI, a reimagined version of the brand’s familiar allen key. Long known as the small tool that comes bundled with flat-pack furniture, the Allen key is rarely seen again after assembly is done. This project flips that idea, placing it front and center as something worth keeping and even wearing.

The ALLËNKI translates the standard tool into a piece of industrial-style jewelry, designed to hang from a chain like a pendant. The look leans into a raw, utilitarian aesthetic, drawing from streetwear and contemporary design cues. Despite its new form, this “hardware meets heirloom” remains fully functional, not a replica or decorative object, but the same tool that can be used to assemble furniture when needed.

This sleek tool, incidentally, was introduced on April 1, so the ability to get one remains under lock and (Allen) key. While it may not be headed to store shelves just yet, the idea shows how everyday items can be updated for the times.
