Audi Reveals A Bold, Minimal, ‘Digital First’ New Logo In Simple Black And White

By Dorothy Tan, 12 May 2017

The minimalist, flat design trend seems to be still going strong—Audi is the latest in a long line of companies that have introduced flat versions of their logos in recent years.

Unveiling its new logo and branding identity in a comprehensive brand portal earlier this year, the luxury car company demonstrates its “digital first” approach to corporate design, which ensures that its brand appearance would remain clear and distinctive on all of “today’s and future devices”.

Designed to be flexible and modular, this new identity is held together by dynamic principles instead of rigid rules—in fact, rules are kept to a minimum, a decision that resulted in the restrained and sophisticated black and white color palette for the logo.

While some other brands have been criticized for their bland and uninspiring flat logos, Audi’s redesigned brand mark has managed to convey a sense of elegance and confidence through innovative design elements, such as “free logo placement, equally weighted brand color and vivid typography”.
