Kim Kardashian Slammed For Alleged ‘Blackface’ In The Ad For Her New Beauty Line
Kim Kardashian West
is being slammed on Twitter by users claiming that she is guilty of “blackface”—which means "trying to look black"—in an ad for her upcoming KKW beauty line.
Kim recently announced
her new beauty venture and the initial reactions were mostly positive. However, when she showed off her first product in a Twitter post, things took a turn.
She tweeted a
photo of herself wearing a heavy coat of contouring and highlighting make-up, along with a caption announcing that a KKW Beauty Creme Contour & Highlight Kit would be the first product to hit the website.
While some fans
are excited about the prospect of a Kim-approved contour kit, others were quick to notice that the combination of makeup and lighting in the photo seemed to have darken her skin.
One user tweeted
, “Black women get told to lighten. Meanwhile, Kim spends her entire career in perpetual blackface and is lauded for her beauty.” Then another user took the opportunity to share side-by-side images of Kim with and without the make-up to show just how much darker her skin appears to be in the photo.
