Artist Gustav Klimt is famous for his stunning golden paintings, and fellow Austrian artist-cum-photographer Inge Prader has recreated his iconic works in a gold-drenched photographic series—for a worthy cause.

Klimt was a central figure of the Vienna Secession movement, which produced artists who were known for their independent thinking and bold rejection of historical norms; ideals that inspired the theme of the 23rd annual Life Ball—Europe’s largest annual HIV/AIDS fundraising event.

Prader and Life Ball collaborated on the beautiful series in order to revive the progressive spirit of the Secession movement and break down the stigmas and misinformation surrounding the HIV/AIDS community.

“Breaking out of the old ways and advancing one’s own individuality and self-determination; this was the core idea of the Viennese Secessionists…a wonderful metaphor for the Life Ball, which has fought from its inception both for active steps towards health and…overcoming of social barriers, taboos and stigmas,” says Life Ball co-founder Gary Keszler.

Admire some of the beautiful images below or through Prader’s website, and learn more about Life Ball’s mission via Facebook or the official website.
