Snapchat x Jeff Koons’ Epic Pop Art Scavenger Hunt For Users Gets Leaked

By Kylie Woon, 03 Oct 2017

Snapchat and pop artist Jeff Koons are collaborating on an epic, Pop Art-fueled scavenger hunt that spans across the world, TechCrunch’s Josh Constine reports.

The news leaked when Snapchat launched a mysterious countdown page on its website. Titled art.snapchat.com, the page gives nothing away—or so the company thought—besides a scenic view of New York City’s Central Park. Tech savvy netizens managed to time hack the website and trick it into spilling the beans just a day before the big unveiling.

The exciting collaboration will virtually scatter Koons’ iconic balloon animal sculptures at landmarks around the world. Leaked images reveal that the virtual installations can be found at Central Park in New York, the Sydney Opera House in Australia, and Hyde Park in London, to name a few. Snapchat users can track the art down in-app, ‘Pokémon Go!’-style.

When Snapchat users approach an artwork, a special filter will reveal the larger-than-life virtual Jeff Koons sculpture, giving users a few photo opps with the iconic art. The feature is definitely a refresher from your usual museum visit.

In addition, a sign-up form titled ‘Artists Welcome!’ was spotted in the leaked info—suggesting aspiring artists have a chance to get their work virtually exhibited by Snapchat.

It is expected that Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel will officially debut the feature tomorrow at the Vanity Fair New Establishment Summit. Until then—check out some images and videos of the leaked Snapchat x Jeff Koons collaboration below.
