Twitter Is Having A Field Day Making Fun Of Trump’s ‘Person of the Year’ Tweet

By Izza Sofia, 26 Nov 2017

Twitter had a field day with President Donald Trump’s claim about passing on being TIME magazine’s 2017 ‘Person of the Year.’

Trump said the magazine informed him he was “probably” going to be granted the title for the second year in a row. He tweeted, “I said probably is no good and took a pass.”

TIME disputed Trump’s tweet, saying he was “incorrect” about its selection process for the award. “TIME does not comment on our choice until publication, which is December 6,” the magazine said in a statement on Twitter.

Rick Stengel, a former TIME managing editor who left the publication to join the Obama administration State Department, said he thinks Trump fired off the tweet to preempt the fact that he was not selected.

“I suspected that perhaps he knew he wasn't going to get it and he wanted to look like he was turning it down before he was turned down,” Stengel said.
