Spotify Once Again Exposes Your Amusing Listening Habits In Year-End Campaign

Last year Spotify launched a hilarious ad campaign that exposed its users’ embarrassing listening habits. The ‘Thanks, 2016... it’s been weird’ initiative receives a 2017 follow-up featuring 70 artistes including Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith.

While 2016 might’ve been an odd year, 2017 hasn’t exactly been a bed of roses. Aware that it’s been a pretty bleak year, Spotify decided to put a positive spin on these revelations and inspire audiences on their 2018 goals.

Spotify’s CMO Seth Farbman told Creativity Online, “When we started to look at this year’s data and what the news was every day we realized there was a lot of fatigue and exhaustion with all the events in 2017. So rather than go back and relive that exhaustion, we thought we would look forward and bring in a spirit of hope and optimism.”

For instance, you might want to consider becoming “significantly less proficient at goodbyes” and “be as loving as the person who put 48 Ed Sheeran songs on their ‘I Love Gingers’ playlist.”

The ads were made by Spotify’s in-house creative team and will roll out across 18 global locations plus seven US cities: New York; Los Angeles; Chicago; Dallas; Miami; Nashville; and Washington DC.

Similar to last year, the campaign includes entries specially catered to various markets. For example, “Leave 2017 behind with as good conscience as the person who streamed ‘Ain’t My Fault’ 1355 times this year — Zara Larsson, one of the most streamed artists of the year,” was made uniquely for Sweden.
