Virgil Abloh Teams Up With Takashi Murakami For A Highly Coveted Art Exhibition
Virgil Abloh is
teaming up with Takashi Murakami for Murakami’s upcoming exhibition.
Murakami is a Japanese contemporary artist
known for “blurring the boundary between fine and commercial art.” His work includes mashing classical Japanese art and pop culture, making him one of the most influential artists today.
Fusing the signature
elements found in Abloh’s OFF-WHITE label and Murakami’s iconic art career, the launch of the exhibition will surely become a highly talked-about event.
Set to take
place at Gagosian Gallery
in London, the collaborative exhibition will include a mashup of fashion and art.
The show is
titled ‘Future History’, but other details remain relatively unknown. Glimpses of what to expect, however, have been released on social media.
Murakami posted a black,
white and neon pink collage portrait of what looks like William Shakespeare, who comes partially concealed by Murakami’s character ‘Mr. DOB’, while Abloh posted
a “work in progress” image called ‘times’.
Murakami shared a photo on Instagram
showing a tote bag with a large-scale OFF-WHITE square arrow emblazoned with Murakami’s graphics.
The pair is
rumored to be creating a range of merchandise for the upcoming art exhibition as well.
