Ready Player One could well be one of the most anticipated films for this year. Not only is it based on the best-selling science fiction adventure novel by Ernest Cline, but is also directed by Steve Spielberg.

“In the year 2045, reality is an ugly place. The only time teenage Wade Watts really feels alive is when he’s jacked into the virtual utopia known as the OASIS. Wade’s devoted his life to studying the puzzles hidden within this world’s digital confines—puzzles that are based on their creator’s obsession with the pop culture of decades past and that promise massive power and fortune to whoever can unlock them,” reads the book’s synopsis.

“But when Wade stumbles upon the first clue, he finds himself beset by players willing to kill to take this ultimate prize. The race is on, and if Wade’s going to survive, he’ll have to win—and confront the real world he’s always been so desperate to escape.”

In the lead up to the movie’s March release, fans have been treated to its retro poster that gives a nod to the 80s. Designed by Paul Shipper, the print is reminisce of works created by iconic poster illustrator Drew Struzan for classic films such as Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and Back to the Future. If you look closely, you might even notice elements that pay homage to films that Struzan had illustrated. For instance, the time-travelling ‘DeLorean’ from Back to the Future sits near the bottom of the poster.

In addition to the poster’s vintage vibes comes the film’s official logo, created by Pentagram’s Emily Oberman. Twitter user @CaptMiller85 expressed his disbelief upon realizing that “the logo is literally a maze to the egg!!”

Ready Player One will be released in cinemas on 29 March 2018. In the meantime, you can watch the film’s trailer and see its official poster below.
