While Instagram attempts to widen its features available for ‘Stories’, a new discovery by TechCrunch reader Ishan Agarwal sheds light on a possible upcoming addition: a ‘Portrait’ mode hidden within the app’s Android Application Package (APK)—a file format similar to Window’s ‘.exe’ but for Android.

The feature, if ever released, would allow users to capture stylized images with the bokeh effect for background blur as well as additional lighting effects.

After deconstructing the APK, Agarwal found an icon titled ‘portrait_shutter_icon.png’, which you can see here.

For now, it’s unclear when Instagram might launch this tool that could bring more creative options to its ‘Stories’ function, so stay tuned.
