Lemon Poppy Seed: Multitasking Creativity
BY Joshua Tang

Some symphony orchestras emit a mellow and soothing feel while others send you into an orgasmic whirl of thrill and exhilaration. The publication, Lemon Poppy Seed, is similar to the latter. This “symphonic” experience from the book makes you flush with heat and excitement. Lemon Poppy Seed is a compilation of works from new and promising designer talents from around the world. Not for the faint hearted, this publication is filled with hype, life and fresh ideas and is the perfect source of inspiration for upcoming designers.

Title:: Lemon Poppy Seed: Multitasking Creativity
Publisher: Gestalten
Author: R. Klanten, H. Hellige, A. Mollard

Clocking in at 272 pages, the publication brings viewers into another world of creativity. Shocking colours, precise execution, stunning imagery and creative ideas from advocates of good design makes this publication is must-read. Another key element of Lemon Poppy Seed is its ability to unify all the diverse characteristics of these upcoming designers into a simple and eloquent publication.

Flipping through this graphic intensive book allows one to immerse oneself into a “new generation of talent [that] is currently developing its own interdisciplinary and refreshingly off-key visual vocabulary” as mentioned by Gestalten, the publisher. Lemon Poppy Seed is where all these ardent artists and fervent illustrators perform in unison under the leadership of an excellent conductor – the team of editors.

An expert conductor is able to pick out the wrong notes and chords from a miasma of various musical instruments. Such characteristics are akin to the sharp-eyed editors of Lemon Poppy Seed, who have featured these promising design talents from around the world. Conscientiously handpicking rising stars from around the world is an almost impossible task that requires hard work, patience and a keen scouting eye. The editors Klanten, Hellige and Mollard have managed to keep these passionate artists on the right chord, tempo and beat but at the same time not limiting the potential of these talent with this publication, Lemon Poppy Seed – Multitasking Creativity.

The design of a girl dancing on the cover of Lemon Poppy Seed amidst splashes of loud colors sets the mood for this upbeat publication that is nothing but surprising and astonishing. The layout of this publication can be considered easy on the eyes in my humble opinion, because every design is placed on a whole page which somewhat gives it space to breathe. Every now and then, there will be designs that will leave you staring in awe and wonder.

Even as you browse through the pages of Lemon Poppy Seed, it will make your heart thump with great excitement and anticipation just like how the romantic strokes from the double bass makes listeners’ heart vibrate with exhilaration and gusto. The perfectly-executed designing and meticulous printing will sweep readers off their feet, but make them coming back craving for more.

Besides being able to be engulfed by all these promising talents from around the world, it brightens the eyes and replenishes the drying creative inspirations of veteran designers. It also warms the heart to know that design is heading towards a dynamic evolution that calls designers to creatively unify different elements of design together with the various cultures around the world, and just as the subtitle of Lemon Poppy Seed suggests, Multitasking Creativity.

The editors of Lemon Poppy Seed sign off with a list of the designers featured in this mesmerizing publication in alphabetical order, just like how a conductor ends off a great show by acknowledging the key musicians of his orchestra.
