Ads in books—a sacrilege against the hallowed art of literature? Possibly so, but given the shift to eBooks, we might be seeing ads in the middle of War & Peace (a comfortable distraction in that case) soon. A TechCrunch article goes through what might be in store for the world of literature as we know it.

If anything, those pesky ads will keep us from being completely absorbed in the fictional world. As The New York Times opined, eBooks “make readers less isolated” as they appear less bookworm-ish and are, moreover, likely to be engaged in other non-reading activities on their eReaders.

And maybe the Gray Lady would ultimately be used to line bird cages. In a humorous piece in Wired.com, Lore Sjöberg suggests newspapers should come with a parakeet. That way, there’ll always be a use for print.
