Despite mobile phones being able to do what they do, wristwatches aren’t going the way of the dinosaur just yet. A Wired article explains how innovative and quirky design touches are keeping watches relevant, perhaps more as a style accessory than a time-telling device.

And Japanese artist Haruo Suekichi is one of those purveyors of the old device. He’s been making steampunk-inspired watches for some time now, and CrunchGear has an illuminating interview on his work and influences.

In other design news, a New York Magazine writer isn’t too pleased with the spate of anti-retouching photos of models in ads and magazines.
