Important Factors For Creative Value
First of all, it must enable you to achieve your goals more efficiently than you would have done otherwise.
In terms of business, this may mean getting things done at a faster rate and achieving the same or a higher quality level. If you are using it in your own life then it may be achieving your personal goals faster and cheaper than you would have otherwise done. The point is, if it isn’t getting better results than that which you would normally do, why would you change?
The second is linked to the first.
Whilst I always maintain that you should suspend your judgment when being creative, scrutiny is critical afterwards.
If you want to come up with weird and wonderful ideas that have no basis in reality and are of no real value, then feel free to leave this part out. If you want solid ideas that may well add value to your life or business and can be made a reality then you need to make sure you scrutinize each idea after the generation session and see how it stands up.
Very often when we come up with an idea, we form an attachment to it that has a lot to do with our egos. This can make us blind to an idea’s bad points. It’s always useful to have someone else join us at this point. They will nearly always spot something we, as the originator of the idea, will miss. If you can, include a second person. Which brings me to my next factor.
Remember, we are human beings and are therefore emotional creatures, whether we like it or not.
We are swayed by our emotions more than most of us would care to admit, and so are our levels of creativity. It is unlikely that you will be able to be creative if you feel miserable. Creativity to a large extent is based on your emotional state.
If you are excited and optimistic you are far more likely to come up with ideas that will have some value to you. If you are unable to change your emotional state, or are in an environment that is affecting your emotional state, then you may have to wait until these are changed before you can access your creative state.
If you bear in mind the above factors when creatively thinking, you will find that your sessions vastly improve in terms of quality.
