Ultra-Portable Business and Luxury Notebooks now with Embedded Mobile Broadband
Weybridge, 28th August 2007 - Selected models in the new VAIO SZ6-Series and VAIO TZ20-Series now feature fully integrated Wireless WAN (WWAN) capability. Thanks to VAIO "everywair", these machines can provide uninterrupted broadband Internet via mobile phone networks, freeing users from the confines of wireless hot spots.
"Soon WWAN will be the norm," says Hidetoshi Takigawa, Director of Marketing for VAIO Of Europe (VOE). "But right now, we are trailblazing both by developing the VAIO 'everywair' hardware and by forging relationships with network providers. VAIO owners now and in the future will benefit from the technical know-how we've already built up. We are ensuring that VAIO becomes synonymous with cutting edge mobile connectivity."
VAIO WWAN uses the latest mobile broadband technology called HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Address) running over mobile phone networks to deliver Internet connections of up to 3.6Mbps - 10 times faster than UMTS (3G) networks. Thanks to upgradable firmware, this will rise to 7.2Mbps when the service becomes available.
Twin 'Diversity' antennas concealed in the lid are used to boost signal quality in marginal areas, with an improvement of up to 20% compared to single antenna systems. As the hardware is fully integrated, there's no external card to deal with - the SIM is inserted directly into the notebook itself. The VAIO Smart Network software makes everything very easy to use by displaying all available networks and allowing the user to select between them at will.
Where network coverage is present, so is the Internet - at broadband speed. This brings many freedoms: exchange large documents with colleagues from a café table or a train; manage email with the luxury of a full screen and keyboard; search and socialise on the Web; even videoconference. Both the VAIO SZ6-Series and the TZ20-Series feature built-in MotionEye™ webcams as well as microphones, so they are perfectly equipped for video communications on top of everything else.
VAIO "everywair" embedded WWAN technology is fully approved and certified by the network operators working together with Sony to deliver top quality mobile broadband.
