Weatherspoon Art Museum: UNCG Department of Art Faculty Biennial
EXHIBITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Weatherspoon Art Museum

October 7, 2007 - December 9, 2007

The Weatherspoon is pleased to present the 2007 biennial exhibition of recent work by faculty members in the Department of Art at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. UNCG's art faculty is made up of practicing artists who exhibit their work nationally and internationally.

The Art Faculty Biennial exhibition includes painting, sculpture, collage, photography, and video work by twenty faculty members.

The works in the exhibition highlight the diverse media and conceptual approaches pursued by art faculty. Michael Ananian's realist oil painting, Garage Quintet, focuses on the figure within a specific social environment, while Mariam Aziza Stephan's monochromatic oil painting, "Soft Burst," explores new territory in abstract painting.

Other works in the exhibition include Nikki Blair's ironic ceramic sculpture, "Trojan," Chris Cassidy's video "The Isthmus of Kansas," which collapses aerial views of the U.S. to only the east and west coasts, and Relocating, a video by new art faculty member, Lee Walton, documenting the artist's displacement of various objects throughout the streets of his old Brooklyn neighborhood.

The opening reception is at 2pm on Sunday, October 7th. The exhibition is a wonderful opportunity for UNCG students, staff and faculty, and the Greensboro community, to view new work produced by these accomplished practicing artists.
