Luxor Installs First Scitex Vision VEEjet In The Philippines
Established as a digital printing firm in the early part of 1996, Luxor was originally a trading business founded by three high-school friends in the late 1980s. On a business trip to Korea in 1995, they attended an exhibition where a large format printer was being showcased and realised that there was gap in the market to be filled in their homeland.
Starting with only one large format printer - The Outboard - and just five employees, Luxor slowly started to make its name known in the outdoor advertising industry. As the Company expanded, so did its arsenal of printers: a Scitex Vision Grandjet V5 and a Scitex Vision Grandjet S3 were installed in order to meet the demands of its ever-growing client list. Today Luxor employs more than 40 people and boasts a large and broad client base, which includes names such as Nestlé, Toyota and the Philippines' leading telecom company, Smart Telecommunication. The firm currently offers a diverse range of services such as photographic billboards, streamers, banners, vehicle wraps, POP/POS, and blimps, to name but a few.
Looking to broaden their horizons further, Luxor invested in the Scitex Vision VEEjet in November 2004. Luxor's President, Johnny Tan, comments, "We saw the purchase of the Scitex Vision VEEjet as a long-term investment in the future of our company. The thinking behind advertising is more creative than ever, and subsequently the demand for printers to produce something out of the ordinary, something that stands out from the crowd, is huge. Now that we have invested in the Scitex Vision VEEjet, we have the capability to meet that demand; the possibilities it presents are limitless."
Using Scitex Vision VisionInk series UV200 supreme pigmented UV curable ink, for superb adhesion on even the most challenging substrates, Luxor's Scitex Vision VEEjet prints at a resolution of 720 dpi on a full image area of up to 2m x 3m and a thickness of 1.57". Johnny enthuses: "The Scitex Vision VEEjet's ability to print on a wide variety of substrates such as glass, marble, stainless steel, ceramics, acrylic, cork, tiles, wood and vinyl, will help us enter a number of new and exciting markets such as interior design and the household and furniture industries."
When Luxor was commissioned by confectionary giants Nestlé to produce an innovative piece of advertising, the Scitex Vision VEEjet proved the right machine for the job. The company had to create a free-standing 1.8m x 0.9m Christmas tree as part of Nestle's "Pasko Na Pasko Now" (It's Christmas Time now) promotion in the Philippines. Johnny comments, "This was our first major project carried out using the Scitex Vision VEEjet. We were printing on 2mm foam PVC, a substrate that we had not used before. It was a very complex printing job indeed involving back-to-back printing on the PVC board and ensuring that all images matched up once the piece was put together. There was a lot of complicated die-cutting and assembly involved. The Scitex Vision VEEjet performed beyond our expectations and those of the client, and we completed the job well within the deadline."
The future certainly looks bright for Luxor. The business continues to flourish with the prospect of more major contracts on the horizon. Johnny concludes, "We are very excited about where we are going. Thanks to the capabilities of the Scitex Vision VEEjet, we are on the brink of penetrating the architectural industry. As to where we go from there - the sky's the limit!"
