P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center presents Senso Unico, a selection of Italian artists who have maintained a prominent presence in the international contemporary art world over the past decade. Senso Unico will take an intimate look at the work of eight influential figures including Paola Pivi, Francesco Vezzoli, Paolo Canevari, Adrian Paci, Angelo Filomeno, Vanessa Beecroft, Rä di Martino, and Pietro Roccasalva.
Not defined by a particular artistic school or movement, these artists and their distinct oeuvre will be brought together for the first time in a presentation of outstanding talent from Italy. Central works in the exhibition include Paola Pivi's magnificent yellow-feathered bear, originally presented at the 2007 Hamsterwheel exhibition in Venice and recreated specially for P.S.1; the U.S. premiere of Francesco Vezzoli's acclaimed MARLENE REDUX: A True Hollywood Story!, dramatically displayed in the P.S.1 vault; and the presentation of Bouncing Skull,
Paolo Canevari's poetic and haunting video projection, presented during the 52nd International Exhibition of the 2007 Venice Biennale. Anticipated works include Adrian Paci's Vangelo secondo Pasolini painting series, as well as paintings and a site-specific installation by Pietro Roccasalva.
