Hornet: Signs Guilherme Marcondes
PRESS RELEASE

October, 2007

NEW YORK, NY —Hornet (www.hornetinc.com) is proud to announce the signing of Guilherme Marcondes, director and animator whose 2006 short film "Tyger" was hailed around the world, winning more than a dozen awards.

The film, his first to be independently produced, is a showcase of Marcondes' versatility, incorporating computer animation, illustration, live action, puppetry and photography.

Based on William Blake's poem "The Tyger", the film unfolds in Sao Paolo, Marcondes' hometown, as a nighttime sequence with a pounding, mystical soundtrack, as a giant tiger roams the city streets.

The mood is menacing and dark, and in a strike of surreal genius, the tiger is puppeteered by real-life human figures shrouded in black masks and clothes. Neil Gaiman called the short "absolutely beautiful, like something I dreamed as a boy."

One of the original animators at Lobo studio in Brazil, Marcondes helped the company forge itself into the respected animation and design house that it is today. While there, he completed spots for major clients including Diesel, Panasonic,

The Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon. In 2004, he co-creative directed a short film for Diesel's summer campaign called "Lost Paradise." Though originally intended for in-store displays, the project surpassed Diesel's initial expectations and was later commissioned for TV.

Following his time at Lobo, Marcondes served as a director for MTV International, leading an extensive promotion campaign for the 2005 European Music Awards in Lisbon. In 2006, he moved to the U.S. to work as an art director at Motion Theory until deciding he needed to find a setting that would allow him to fully direct projects in his own right. After two years of building a relationship with Hornet, Marcondes found his platform.

This is the first time Marcondes will be represented as a director. Through Hornet he is repped by Patricia Claire Co. as well as through Passion Pictures in Europe, via their partnership with both Hornet and Patricia Claire Co.

In joining Hornet, Marcondes looks forward to working on projects that reflect his creative visions.

"I want to do spots that have more to do with my personality," he says, emphasizing his interest in music. "I love to work with music — a visual interpretation of music in all forms."
