PRESS RELEASE
Designersblock London reveals explosive creative scene in Nottingham
Nottingham astounded press and public alike at Designersblock London with a new project titled Unleashed. The show, instigated to gift raw inspiration, bought together creative practitioners from different disciplines to collaborate on evocative new pieces.
Stand out collaborations from the show include:
Bunny Flop by Medessin and Jon Burgerman
Designer: Martin Vicker (Furniture and Interiors)
Illustrator: Jon Burgerman (illustrator)
Martin Vicker, founder and MD of Medessin and Lief Design collaborated with illustrator Jon Burgerman to create a giant rabbit bean bag called Bunny Flop. Martin Vicker, said "It's good to work with someone who usually works in 2D. The Bunny Flop is very different from my usual work and a bit of laugh." "humour is very important in terms of design, and this collaboration with JB was a great release of energy into a product that prompted a spectrum of response, mainly laughter!" The piece proved a most comfortable resting place for weary design show attendees during London Design Festival who were found sleeping, working, playing and observing on the various parts of Bunny Flop throughout the show.
Sarah Davenport - 'Chichi' the rocking boat piano
Designer: Sarah Davenport
Manufacturers: Davenport Cabinet Makers
Sarah Davenport designed a rocking baby grand piano. "I wanted to create a design that could speak..." she explains, "...- change with its surroundings, evoking the myriad of emotions and which anybody could participate in communicating. The personality of Chichi altered according to the player - mirrored elements revealing the persona we are playing to and the rock allowing the design to work with the contributor" The piece is a dreamy fusion of furniture and performance and inspired fantastic reactions from children, adults, musicians and designers alike. As far as we know its only one in the world.
Ink Posters. Ideas in Print. Limited Edition Screen Prints
Designers: Casciani Evans Wood (Graphic Design, branding)
Printers: I Dress Myself (Enviro Screen Printers)
Design consultancy Casciani Evans Wood launched a new brand call Ink Posters at Designersblock. Casciani Evans Wood Collaborated with Screen printers I Dress Myself to produce a unique range of posters that will be sold through design stores and on the web.
Jonathan Casciani says "It's great to use our design skills to make Prints for the home. The concept is to create a talking point, or an idea on the wall, rather than 'art'. It's also great to develop a concept with a local manufacturer. Their knowledge of the process has led to beautiful, tactile prints that have the highest environmental standards."
New Furniture Concepts from Interlock Furniture
Designers: Interlock Furniture
Nottingham based furniture designers Interlock launched a new range of residential and commercial furniture which uses no adhesives, fixtures or fittings for its structure.
The furniture appeals to those who are looking for more than a stylish piece of furniture. The logic and integrity of the pieces offer a unique insight into the world of designers who are concerned with a truly holistic approach to problem solving.
The design of the Unleashed room at Designersblock encouraged spectators to interact directly with the products and their surroundings, becoming part of the show themselves.
Other creatives profiled were architectural metalwork and interior designers, Philip Watts, corsetry design and manufacturers Eternal Spirits, glass sculptor Lindsay Devine and film by Broadway Digital Media.
