Academy of Art University’s Graduate Degree Popularity Increasing
PRESS RELEASE

San Francisco, CA — Pure intellectual curiosity. The desire to advance professionally. The drive to attain mastery of the craft.  These are just a few reasons why artists and designers pursue an MFA degree.

The extensive graduate program offered at the Academy of Art University, San Francisco is outlined in Mastery, its new graduate program book.  Designed and art directed by the School of Graphic Design's faculty, Phil Hamlett, Graduate Director; Mary Scott, Chair; and Hunter Wimmer, Associate Director, the book outlines the school's 12 graduate programs which includes 11 MFA programs and a Masters of Architecture. Program outlines in the book feature complementing examples of a graduate's work and a quote about what the program meant to them personally and professionally.

Designer Erik Adams, Cahan & Associates, a recent MFA graduate from the School of Graphic Design, says, "At the Academy I found a place where like-minded faculty and students motivated each other to push the meaning and means of their work. That environment was a springboard for my own personal explorations and has taken me further in the professional world than I could have imagined."

"The Graphic Design program is for designers who are already working but want to radically turn up their game. An MFA can turn a good design professional into a sought after designer. It can mean the difference between finding a job, and finding 'the' job," says the School of Graphic Design's Graduate Director, Phil Hamlett.

The graduate program in graphic design emphasizes mastery of the profession. Focused areas of specialized training include typography, visual literacy, identity, and print publication. A Masters degree from the Academy of Art University means different things for different designers. It can help develop a stronger portfolio, enhance skills and knowledge, or advance ideas from concept to completion. "Whatever the different personal goals are, an MFA degree does one thing for everyone, it helps them make a living doing the thing they love," says Hamlett.

For those designers who wish to earn an MFA degree but are not in the San Francisco area, the Academy of Art offers an online program. Examples of online courses are available at online.academyart.edu.

Mastery is an FSC-certified book. It was printed at FSC-certified printer, Graphic Press on FSC-certified Mohawk Options 100% PCW.  100% of the electricity used to manufacture this paper is offset with certified windpower certificates.
