Jorge Macchi: The Anatomy of Melancholy
The Blanton Museum of Art
December 15, 2007-March 16, 2008
Jorge Macchi: The Anatomy of Melancholy will be the first comprehensive U.S. exhibition of one of Latin America's principal contemporary artists. Macchi, who created Argentina’s pavilion at the last Venice Bienale, produces work that is characterized by drawing poetic potential from everyday situations and materials.
His artwork explores the intersection of presence and absence in structures such as music, maps, and language.
The exhibition will showcase approximately 40 of Macchi's most important works, spanning 15 years of artistic production in a variety of media including video, installation, drawing, sculpture, and collage. Macchi has developed a significant reputation in his native Argentina and Europe, and the exhibition will give increased U.S. exposure to this artist whose reputation is on the rise.
