Selections from the Estate
Denver Art Museum
Now through June 29, 2008
A leader among first-generation abstract expressionists, Clyfford Still is considered one of the most important painters of the twentieth century.
But most of his work has not been seen by the public. Still's estate—which includes 94 percent of his work—was sealed after his death in 1980.
This exhibition features thirteen paintings, including a 1940 self-portrait, several never-before-seen works on paper, and five 1940s and 1950s masterworks that show the evolution of Still's mature, purely abstract style.
