Hillman Curtis Embraces Offf NYC
EXHIBITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Embrace

Offf Festival New York

2nd - 4th November 2007

Hillman Curtis fresh from his latest digital short film creation "Embrace", will be one of the many big names, from the field of new media design that will be presenting at the inaugural Offf Festival New York, November 2nd to 4th.

One of the best digital designers and boss of his own nine-year-old New York firm hillmancurtis.com, Curtis has created many high-profile and highly trafficked websites, music videos, and online documercials, and also is the author of such books as: the seminal tome Flash Web Design, and required reading at design schools worldwide MTIV, Process, Inspiration and Practice for the New Media Designer.

His most recent book Creating Short Films for the Web, has seen the transition of Curtis to the world of digital short films, and his latest creation, "Embrace".

Curtis admits he barely has time to make these personal shorts, nor does he make an effort to promote them or send them to film festivals. "I squeeze these in every quarter, and just put them on my website," he says.

"I like not having any expectations or associations with ambition," he explains. "That might change as they get better, but it's just fun to make them and who ever sees them, sees them."

Keeping Curtis busy and focussed on his design work includes leading multiple design initiatives for Yahoo! and commercial documercials for Adobe, BMW and others.

The success behind Curtis is the theory and motto he employs at his company; "design is a plan for action". Design isn't necessarily about making something look better; it's about moving someone into action.

"We are commercial artists, with a responsibility to the brand and the product we have agreed to help promote. We try to keep in mind the equal responsibility we have as artists, to do what artists have always done; respond to, reflect upon and, hopefully, influence the world."

"We're New Media Designers, firm believers in the equal and inseparable power of visual and functional communication."
