MICA: Warren Linn's Solo Exhibition
EXHIBITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Maryland Institute College of Art

November 16 - December 6, 2007
5–7 p.m.

About Them:Self, Linn stated, “In continuing to draw, paint, and collage portraits and looking back over this work, two questions arise for me. What has driven me to do these portraits, and why this continuing range of approach? The most obvious answer is because I wanted to and needed (need) to. The thing about these two aesthetics, schools, approaches, the observed and the made up, is they are both about discovery. And at this point, all is fair game.”

Warren Linn has worked for a wide range of major media clients for almost 40 years, including Atlantic, the Boston Globe, CBS/Sony, the Chicago Tribune, Esquire, Harpers, the L.A. Times, the New Yorker, the New York Times, Newsweek, the Progressive, React Magazine, Rolling Stone, Time, Urbanite, the Village Voice, the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, and Winter & Winter Music.

His works is in 10 American Illustration annuals and on their Web site, most recently in A-I 26, to be published in November 2007. His works can also be found in numerous Society of Illustrators annuals and in The Society of Illustrators 200 Years of American Illustration. His Harper/Collins children’s book Happy Birthday Frankie by Sarah Weeks was awarded the Marion Vannett Ridgway Honor Book Award.

After teaching at Parsons School of Design in New York for 16 years, and at Rhode Island School of Design in 1996 and 1997, Linn began teaching at MICA in 1998. He joined the College’s full-time faculty in 2001 where he draws, paints, collages, and illustrates continuously.

Additionally, Linn and his drawing students collaborate with Baltimore Symphony Orchestra musicians and MICA faculty on Concert Lab, an ongoing acoustic music, digital media, and traditional art collaboration.
