This December, dgv is returning to Miami Beach once again for Design Miami and Art Basel Miami Beach. This time around, they will bring you an exciting exhibition that cannot be missed at this year’s Design Miami (December 6 – 9) where they will present the exhibition “Fragiles”.
“Fragiles” is an eclectic collection of contemporary porcelain, ceramic and glass objects by a new wave of designers who are manifesting their creative visions out of fragile materials. It presents over fifty innovative objects that expand and challenge our notion of these classical materials and centuries of tradition by simultaneously exploring a new aesthetic approach and technological boundaries. From experimental and avant-garde to evocative retro-inspired reinterpretations, these cutting-edge examples indicate how visual culture and high tech production processes are influencing and reshaping this delicate territory in pioneering ways.
Exclusively for "Fragiles", dgv has commissioned Arne Quinze, the trail-blazing, self-made designer, and Creative Director of Quinze and Milan to create unique limited edition glass pieces in conjunction with traditional German artisans. They are unique hybrids of art and design sensibilities imbued with Quinze’s sheer brilliance. In addition, we will also introduce works by Nik Schweiger from the celebrated interdisciplinary studio 3deluxe with two new porcelain and glass creations as well as a never seen before exquisite chandelier by Hans van Bentem and ceramic lettering by Stephanie DeArmond. These pieces will be unveiled at dgv’s temporary design gallery located in the heart of the Design District (Marcy Building, 2874 N. Miami Avenue, Miami, FL 33137) during Design Miami.
The inspiring showcase also includes striking products in all shapes, sizes and editions; ceramic crockery sets by Jurgen Bey, super-sized vases by Jaime Hayon, raunchy glassware by Jerszy Seymour, fantastically hand painted porcelain objects by Marcel Wanders, a collection of ceramic pieces adorned with glass beads by Hella Jongerius, a porcelain vase by Alessandro Mendini and an exciting selection of recent cutting-edge design objects by emerging talents. The projects featured in “Fragiles” are playful in character and concocted in an unconventional manner.
