MFA Design Department faculty member Paula Scher has an exhibition of more than 40 of her poster designs at the Dean Johnson Gallery, 646 Massachusetts Avenue in Indianapolis, Indiana. "Scher Numbers" includes recent projects like the Numbers series as well as landmark works Scher has done for Ballet Tech, The Public Theater and SVA, and remains on view through Thursday, November 29. Scher fans can also catch "Recent Paintings," an exhibition of works that expand on her recent Maps series, depicting entire continents, countries and cities. The collection of paintings is showing at Maya Stendhal Gallery through Saturday, January 26, 2008.
Also from the graduate design program, Department Co-chair Steven Heller--who is the subject of the current "Masters Series" exhibition at the Visual Arts Museum--is taking part in Design, Wit and the Creative Act, a panel discussion that is the latest installment of Core77's Offsite series. The panel takes place on Friday, November 9, at the Art Directors Club (ADC), 106 West 29th Street.
Heller is back at the ADC the following month for Designism 2.0, a three-part event on Thursday, December 13, that features Heller, SVA's Acting Chairman Milton Glaser and others focusing on "design activism" and related topics. Tickets are $24.50 for ADC Members; $35 for non-members; and $20 for students and non-profit organization members. RSVP by calling 212.643.1440 x10.
