Board to spearhead Singapore’s drive to be a leading hub for design excellence with a vibrant design industry that contributes to national competitiveness and creativity

Nine industry leaders have been appointed to the DesignSingapore Council Board for a two-year term. The Board will be integral in helping DesignSingapore enter its next phase of design promotion – focusing on businesses and the integration of design into more areas of Singapore life.

The Board is well represented across the diversity of design disciplines, community interests and businesses. Two new members were chosen for their commitment and leadership in the creative community.

Mr Robert Tomlin – Vice Chairman (South Asia), UBS Warburg. Mr Tomlin has been intimately involved in developing the Singapore creative scene. He served on the study group for the creation of the School of Arts. He is also the Chairman of the Singapore Repertory Theatre and a founding director of both the Lyric Opera and The Arts House. Apart from being on the Board of the Council, Mr Tomlin also serves as a Board Member of Singapore Management University (SMU) and LaSalle-SIA and the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory. He is also an Independent, non executive Director of Olam International Ltd and of Mediacorp Pte Ltd.

Dr Christopher Chia – Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Media Development Authority (MDA). Dr Chia has over 20 years of public sector experience with senior appointments ranging from IT R&D management to postgraduate educational management. He was previously the CEO of the National Library Board (NLB). DesignSingapore currently has close links with the MDA, working on industry development programmes in a synergistic manner.

DesignSingapore Council also expresses its appreciation to four outgoing Members who were pivotal in guiding the Council’s pursuit of design development:

- Mr Tham Khai Meng, Co-Chairman, Ogilvy & Mather Asia Pacific, was an inaugural Board Member from 2003.
- Mr Lucas Chow, Group Chief Executive Officer, MediaCorp, was an inaugural Board Member from 2005 to 2007.
- Mr Kim Faulkner, Chief Executive Officer, Acitiviste Pte Ltd, was a Board Member from 2003.
- Mr Lee Suan Hiang, Chief Executive Officer, National Arts Council, was a Board Member from 2003.

With these changes, the DesignSingapore Council Board is now made up the following nine members.
