Design Event 2008 : Call for Submissions
CALL FOR SUBMISSION

Deadline: 4 January 2008

The North East's annual design festival, Design Event, launches the 2008 call for submissions.

Design Event invites designers, collectives, curators and organisations to submit project proposals that relate to the theme of Northern Design.

We are looking for new innovative exhibitions, tours, events and installations across all design disciplines as well as existing projects which are relevant to the curatorial theme.

Throughout the 2008 programme Design Event want to explore the theme of Northern Design in relation to the UK and Northern Europe, looking specifically at culture, people and landscape.

In keeping with the overall interest of Design Event, we will be looking for projects which illustrate a consideration for sustainability.

In terms of culture, proposals may investigate traditions that are synonymous with specific regions or countries, how do these traditions differ across Northern Europe?

Where do they stem from? What do they say about the communities that practice them?

How have traditional cultures been interpreted / reflected in new ways?

Projects may explore what characterises people from specific Northern regions, both in relation to urbanised ports and rural landscapes.

Projects may also take a more abstract look at the theme and explore the phenomenon of the North/South divide.
