Mark Batty Publisher: The Small Press Book Fair, '07 Style
EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT

New York Center for Independent Publishing

1st and 2nd of December

The electric air of exhilaration, that tingling buzz in your spine, that chilling-sweet drop in your gut: They know you’ve all been feeling it lately, and they know why.

The 20th annual Independent Small Press Book Fair is just around the corner, and, yes, we are all very excited. MBP is going to be there, representing our current titles and debuting our Spring 2008 Catalog.

Taking place on the 1st and 2nd of December, the 2007 Independent and Small Press Book Fair will be held at the New York Center for Independent Publishing (formerly the Small Press Center) at 20 W. 44th St., where there is sure to be a blast of authors, designers, and publishers alike, talking shop and figuring out how to better the literati world one title at a time. The hours are 10-6p on Saturday, and 11-5p Sunday.

As always there will be a series of lectures, seminars and workshops regarding authorship, the world of publishing, and the independent style of life.

These events will be open and gratis to anyone who wants to stop by. This year, talks will be given on subjects ranging from the ins & outs of publishing erotica, to the role translation plays in relaying universal traumas to the world at large, and much more. MBP's own Garth Risk Hallberg (author of A Field Guide to the North American Family) will be reading from his work on Saturday at 11AM.

Come for Garth and stick around for the 2:00pm event, when Fugazi/Minor Threat frontman (and "straight-edge" lifestyle founder) Ian McKaye will host a Q&A session fielding questions on indie music, publishing, small business, and the general indie lifestyle. (And be sure to pick up a copy of CBGB: Decades of Graffiti, where Minor Threat played many times!)

This year, MBP has a spot on the main floor and in the center of all the action - right where we like it. And like last year, they will survey the scene and talk with some of the innovators of the independent publishing industry, to bring to you a full write-up of the event.

So if you're one of the unfortunate few who misses ISPBF this year, don't fret: thanks to MBP.com, there's no such thing as a white lie around the water cooler.
