Brooklyn Museum’s Target First Saturday Highlights Three Exhibitions

PRESS RELEASE

November 2007

The Brooklyn Museum’s Target First Saturdays event, now in its tenth season, attracts thousands of visitors to free programs of art and entertainment each month.

On December 1, the Museum presents an exciting evening of programs inspired by the special exhibitions Global Feminisms Remix, Brushed with Light: American Landscape Watercolors from the Collection, and Infinite Island: Contemporary Caribbean Art.

From 6 to 8 p.m., enjoy a taste of the holidays in the Caribbean with the festive sounds of the Starlite Serenaders. Also at 6 p.m., join contemporary artists Rene Lynch and Patricia Cronin for a discussion on how they incorporate watercolor painting and feminist perspectives into their work.

Then at 6:30 p.m., pianist Ben Model accompanies the classic silent film It (Clarence Badger, 1927, 72 min., NR), a romantic comedy featuring Brooklyn’s own “It Girl” Clara Bow. From 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., participants are invited to sketch with charcoal from a live model.

At 7 p.m., enjoy a Young Voices gallery talk on Infinite Island. At 8 p.m., hear another Young Voices gallery talk on Global Feminisms Remix. At 8:30 p.m., see the film Raising Victor Vargas (Peter Sollett, 2003, 88 min., R), a coming-of-age story set in the Lower East Side’s Puerto Rican community; preceded by the animated short Caribbean Christmas (Walter Tournier, 2001, 24 min., NR). At 9 p.m., listen to the evening’s final Young Voices gallery talk on Brushed with Light.

And from 9 to 11 p.m., DJ Laylo of Liberation Lounge spins a hot mix of Brazilian hip-hop, Puerto Rican reggae, Brooklyn soul, and more.

Throughout the evening, a cash bar will offer beer and wine, and the Museum Café will serve a wide variety of sandwiches, salads, and beverages. The Museum Shop will remain open until 11 p.m.
