These remarkable collaborations between a former fashion photographer attuned to celebrating ‘the look’ and performance artists more concerned with problematising it, are neither documentation nor portraiture, but something more telling about the body in contemporary art.
Working with their bodies as both a site and a signifier, the artists in Exposures are some of the most acclaimed and controversial in Europe – artists who disrupt the norm, breaking the rules and provoking debate by exposing the body in all its diversities, difficulties and desires.
Lois Keidan, of the Live Art Development Agency, and acclaimed artist Ron Athey provide a commentary on these performances and their recording by photographer Manuel Vason.
