Shirley Cho: Threads
Gaffa Gallery
Now through 4th Dec 2008
A solo exhibition of objects and installation by Shirley Cho.
Shirley obtained her formal training in Jewellery and Object Design at the Design Centre, College, where she learned the value of self-discipline and a respect for process and skills in designing and making.
This was followed by a mentorship in 2005 with sculptor, Robin Blau, funded by the Australia Council for the Arts. In 2006, Shirley graduated with a Bachelor of Visual Arts (Honours Class I) in the sculpture department at Sydney College of the Arts.
Through her study at SCA, Shirley learned how the working methods achieved from her earlier craft-based study could be used in installation and became aware of the possibilities of the integration of traditional craft-based work processes with contemporary art forms.
With the exhibition, Threads, she continues to explore the relationship between traditional craft and contemporary art.
