Giogio Armani Spring/Summer 2008 Collections
PRESS RELEASE

Giogio Armani Women's Collection Spring/Summer 2008
Desire interpreted through a tremor of sensuality. A gentle and relaxed sense of time. A yearning for a life more closely tied to the rhythms of nature. Fierce light and deep shadows that alter the intensity of colours, reviving beige, putty, earth grey, transforming blue into lava black, with the dark green of palms, stylised and enlarged to create abstract patterns and geometric motifs.

In essence, a reflection of a languid southern Italian summer, the line regains a new softness, a swirl of pleats, knots and dashes imparting a fluorescent finish. Trousers are tied at the knee, with the same apparent nonchalance displayed by the flat leather sandals. Skirts verge on sarongs, sculpted in form by an array of pleats. Black shawls, sometimes ironic, sometimes dramatic, soften the silhouette. The petite jackets, not quite boleros or spencers, revealing the lightly flared blouses. Evening dresses remain long, featuring a variety of necklines with intricate embroidery accentuating the quality of the workmanship and detailing.

Fisherman style mesh foulards pay homage to Armani’s mysterious lost city of Atlantis where fish brooches cling to the woven basket weave bags as well as to the jackets. Rock crystal and onyx corals support shells enclosed in tulle, embroidered minaudière bags recall miniature treasure chests just retrieved from the waters of the sea. Such is Giorgio Armani’s vision of the South.

Giogio Armani Men's Collection Spring/Summer 2008
Through a restored discipline of form, through the precise treatment of colour, a new mood asserts itself, rid of excess and ephemeral trends. A return to the pursuit of calmer rhythms, soaking up the experiences of a fuller, richer way of life.

The Sicilian way, under the sun, cooled by lightweight and airy materials, in breezy shades: labradorite green; muted whites like sun bleached walls; Armani greige like wet sand; opalescent blue for tailoring. Slim lapels, shawl collar, with clearly constructed shoulders create a more fitted silhouette, with less voluminous but never tight trousers.

The exceptional leatherwear explores the lightweight potential of openwork: python is paired with nappa and left unlined; weave effects with alligator skin in a special treatment with partially open scales.

The shoes also step out in the same tranquil and relaxed mood – with babouche moccasins, slit along the side and at the toe, also in python skin, and classic tennis shoes in natural tones. Washed and treated fabrics indulge the most subtle of all the senses - touch. T-shirts in shirt fabrics: traditional cuffs give long sleeved versions a precise finish, while short sleeved models feature a narrow border in silk knit.

Cool, refined, elegant.
