"The remarkable venue will make the Beijing Olympics the best one ever in Olympic history!" British Prime Minister Gordon Brown marveled admiringly at the National Stadium, dubbed as the "Bird's Nest" during his first goodwill visit to China on Saturday, reported Xinhua News Agency.
The Prime Minister arrived in Beijing on Friday for an official visit to China, his first trip to the country since he took office last June. Brown plans to stay until Sunday. Accompanied by his wife, Sarah Brown and British Olympic gold medalist Kelly Holmes, Brown paid a visit to the National Stadium on Saturday morning.
"When people from the rest of the world come to Beijing, they will be amazed at the great effort made by the Chinese for the Olympics when they visit this venue," said the Prime Minister.
Brown assured reporters that he would definitely come to the Olympics if invited and hoped that more British athletes will come to Beijing in August and bring home positive ideas. London is the host city of 2012 Olympic Games.
"Sports, a transcending force that links people's hearts and souls, can serve to deepen friendship and cooperation between China and Britain," Brown pledged in his speech during a 45-minute dialogue at the Renmin University of China on Friday.
Kelly Holmes, gold medalist for the U.K. in the women's 800m and 1500m at the 2004 Athens Olympics, gave her best wishes for the Beijing Olympic Games and remarked that athletes will feel comfortable in Beijing. "Of course I will come back again in August with more British athletes," she said.
Brown will leave Beijing after his visit to the "Bird's Nest" and stop in Shanghai, China's economic hub, on Saturday. This will be the last leg of his three-day visit to China
