As a member of the client's team, the proofreader must be able to work well both independently and as a participant in a team.
Proofreads a variety of documents, (depending on client site) to include marketing and business development proposals, presentations, and financial documents, as well as manuals, procedures, technical specifications, technical papers, laboratory reports, work orders, and progress reports.
Under the direction of a lead editor, may also help copyedit, word process, and coordinate the production of these documents.
Uses accepted proofreading techniques to rigorously compare documents with an edited markup for accuracy and conformance of content and format and uses standard
editorial and proofreading marks to indicate deviations.
Must be able to recognize and mark problems with fonts and typefaces; awkward line and page breaks; nonstandard or confusing grammar, punctuation, and usage; and inconsistent cross-references, abbreviations, and terminology.
Must be able to work on line as required utilizing desktop publishing software systems to format, produce, and/or revise publication materials such as technical articles, proposals, publications, books, manuals, reports, and marketing materials to incorporate proofreading corrections.
Monitors all assignments in progress against deadlines, and informs team lead so that schedules stay on track.
