This month, Ceramic Tiles of Italy will present a special exhibit entitled sit_down_please that explores the cross-over between the worlds of architecture, furniture design and Italian ceramic tile. Working with famed architect Mario Botta and exhibit curator Aldo Colonetti, the Italian tile industry commissioned a group of designers/architects to create a series of chairs clad with Italian ceramic tile that celebrate the versatility of this material. Since April 2007, this provocative exhibit has traveled the world, launching simultaneously at the Triennale during I Saloni in Milan and at Coverings in McCormick Place, Chicago, then stopping at the NeoCon World's Trade Fair.
On February 13, 2008, sit_down_please will make its New York debut at the Architects & Designers Building. The exhibit will launch during For the Love of Tile & Stone, a seminar co-sponsored by Ceramic Tiles of Italy and Metropolitan Home magazine and held from 6:00-8:00pm at the A&D Building. The exhibit will be an appropriate counterpoint to the seminar discussion, which will explore innovative uses of tile. Free to the public, the chairs will be on display from 9-5 in the building’s lobby from February 14-22, 2008.
