President Sara Diamond and Vice-President, Academic Sarah McKinnon are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. James S. Moy as Dean, Faculty of Art. Dr. Moy joins OCAD on July 1, 2008. Dr. Moy most recently served as Dean and Chair Professor of the School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong. He has also served as Dean, College of Fine Arts at the University of New Mexico and Chair of the Department of Theatre and Drama, University of Wisconsin, Madison, Wisconsin.
Dr. Moy brings with him an extensive background of scholarship and publication in performance and cultural studies. He served on the Management Board of the City University and planned and realized the new Daniel Libeskind SCM building. He brings a successful record in diversity initiatives such as the creation of the $1.5 million Lorraine Hansberry Professorship for a visiting professor of colour at the University of Wisconsin. He has established and supervised disciplinary and interdisciplinary undergraduate, graduate and PhD programs in the arts at his former posts.
He serves on the prestigious Arts Review Panel for the Research Assessment Exercise in the UK where he shares his international expertise on studio-based learning and practice-based research. His ongoing research includes scholarship on virtuosity, and on Asian-American self-representation. Dr. Moy holds degrees in Studio Painting and Theatre Studies.
